Additional Liability insurance protection, which covers you when your personal auto or home owners insurance limits have been exhausted.
Example:  If your automobile Bodily Injury Liability limit is $250,000 per person, and you caused an accident which caused $400,000 of medical bills to another.  Your Auto insurance liability limits would be responsible to pay up to the $250,000 per person limit, and the Umbrella would pay the additional medical bills in excess of the $250,000 up to the limits of the Umbrella.
